Storage of bioenergy crops

Silage

The storage of grass-mixture silage and whole-silage crops for bioenergy is straightforward. Just store them the same way you'd store silage for beef and dairy farming.

Beet

You can store bioenergy beet in piles, under roofs, or as silage. Some growers have experimented with crushing beet into a liquid mush that can be pumped. Although pumping makes the biomass easier to handle, the costs of crushing are high.

Handling

Before you choose a bioenergy crop, you should think about how you'd handle it. If you intend to chop, crush, or pump your crop, you must have the right equipment.
