Shade is no obstacle for a great lawn

Most gardens have an element of shade – under trees, for example, or along fences or on the northern side of buildings. Grass needs light to grow, so shaded areas produce a weaker, less dense lawn that's prone to disease. Shade also encourages the growth of moss.

Our lawn grasses are shade-tolerant

Most lawn seed mixtures give you a level of shade-tolerance. By breeding species and varieties that thrive with less light, we've developed a range of grasses that will happily grow in areas of your garden shaded from the sun. For lawns in the shadiest places, we recommend Turfline® Shadow or Johnsons Shady Place. They come in versions for cold & temperate or hot & dry climates.
