Origin
The LOMIKAR variety was bred by polycrossing of newly selected materials from different varieties with followed-up selection.
Description
LOMIKAR is a tetraploid variety of annual ryegrass. It differs from Italian ryegrass by its full earing already in the year of sowing. It forms big tufts with medium-thick shoots.
The stems are rougher, smooth, tall and flexible – greater resistance to lodging. Its earing comes five days earlier than Jivet. It quickly regrows after cutting, so it allows 3 cuts with a very high first cut.
LOMIKAR is grown as a silage monoculture. Its optimum forage maturity is reached in 60-70 days after sowing.
In addition to high yields of green and dry matter it provides a large quantity of root mass, which improves the structure of the soil.
